Collins Aerospace is seeking a software Engineering Intern to join our Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) team.

This role supports the development, integration, and verification of advanced avionics and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) software.

  • Design, implement, integrate, and test embedded software for advanced avionics navigation systems
  • Develop and execute verification plans, procedures, and test cases for GNSS algorithms, navigation functions, and integrity‑monitoring software
  • Apply automation, scripting, and GenAI‑enhanced tools to improve verification quality and efficiency
  • Collaborate with navigation algorithm, systems, and hardware engineering teams to ensure robust end‑to‑end system performance

What You Will Learn

  • Core GNSS concepts, including GPS signal structures, tracking algorithms, navigation filters, and PNT system performance
  • Techniques in jamming/spoofing detection, RF threat analysis, and resilient navigation techniques
  • DO‑178C DAL A development and verification practices for safety‑critical avionics

Qualifications

You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience with embedded C/C++ software development
  • Proficient in using Python/MATLAB for signal analysis, test vectors, and prototyping

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Knowledge of GNSS Fundamentals and navigation systems
  • Understanding of basic algorithms and data structures
  • Working knowledge of SVN and Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Jama)

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote. The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
