Quantum Control Distributed Runtime Internship 2027

IBM Quantum is seeking motivated computer science students to learn about and develop the world’s first large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer. You will work with a prototype distributed runtime software environment designed to execute programs for next-generation quantum computing systems. Evaluate and integrate existing High-Performance Computing tools into the distributed runtime environment. Develop software and automation tools for data collection, and analysis.

Debug program execution in a prototype distributed control system test environment. Collaborate with compiler, system modeling, and FPGA development teams. Pursuing a Bachelor's/Masters/or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Experience with Rust, C/C++, Git, Linux, and command-line environments. Experience with container environments such as Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes. Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work across disciplines.

Experience with HPC tools such as Slurm, OpenMPI, OpenMP, or dsh. Experience with observability systems such as Prometheus, MQTT, and Graphana. Experience with Quantum computing concepts.
