This position is based in Plano, TX.

What you'll do

Under direct supervision and with guidance from senior engineers and your mentor, your day will involve supporting your team in various tasks, including the design, development, and deployment of AI and machine learning solutions for production environments. The work will be aligned with USAA's technology strategy, potentially involving the use of AI tools and automation to enhance efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI and machine learning solutions for production environments
• Implement and optimize machine learning and generative AI models
• Develop scalable AI pipelines, APIs, and automation workflows
• Collaborate with data scientists, model owners, data engineers, and product teams to integrate AI into business applications
• Monitor model performance and continuously improve model accuracy, reliability and efficiency

To qualify, you must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our interns participate in the summer between their junior and senior years. Our 2027 internship will start on June 2nd, 2027, and last through August 13, 2027. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Anticipated graduation date between September 2027 and May 2028. Foundational understanding of:

• ML Frameworks
• Python
• Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Prompt Engineering
• SQL and database concepts
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership through coursework, projects, student organizations, employment, or community involvement.

What sets you apart:

• Experience building production AI or machine learning applications.
• Exposure to MLOps practices.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications and pipelines.
• Coursework or project experience involving software development.
• Understanding of Agile development concepts.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and emerging technologies.

Compensation

range: The salary range for this position is: $26.50 - $36. Interns will receive an intern stipend to assist with expenses. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role. Compensation

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location.
