About this role

Are you excited about innovation, entrepreneurship and solving complex business problems? Then we are looking for you! The Data Engineer Intern supports data and software development initiatives by assisting with code debugging, performance improvements, and technical problem-solving. This role collaborates with team members to develop solutions, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to reliable data systems.

The intern also participates in code reviews, stays informed on emerging technologies, and helps ensure system understanding through ongoing documentation and project updates. In this role you will:

• Debugging computer code to correct errors and improve performance
• Problem solving and solution creation
• Participating in peer code reviews to improve the quality of code written by team members
• Proactively learning about new technologies
• Regular communication and troubleshooting with team members
• Reviewing documentation about the latest technology releases and project updates to ensure understanding of system operations

Qualifications

What makes You an ideal candidate?

• Must be a current student pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Engineering or Data Engineering with at least one semester remaining upon start of the internship.
• Must possess a minimum of a 3.0 (out of a 4-point scale) overall GPA.
• Junior or Senior classification preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required. This incumbent will be required to give presentations and communicate with business leaders.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving, and conceptual skills required.

Additional Knowledge and Skills Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:

• Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
• Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
• Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
• Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
• Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

AI Skills Preferred

• Experience with AI-assisted software development or automation
• Knowledge of prompting techniques to improve output quality
• Awareness of emerging GenAI capabilities and limitations

Work Experience and education

• 1-2 years of experience with programming languages (Java/C++/Python) preferred
• 1-2 years of experience with Version Control Systems (GitHub, VSA, SVN) preferred
• Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Must be able to work independently or in a team setting.
• Previous internships are considered a plus.
